One of the most awaited smartphones of 2017, the ZTE Axon M is finally unveiled. However, the earlier leaks made the launch event less interesting, though the phone is one of a kind. And please keep in mind that this is not the first phone to have a full touchscreen on both sides.
This phone has the couple of screens that can be folded, so you can call it flip phone or foldable phone. Though, it’s not like foldable that every tech enthusiast dreams about. The two screens are attached by a hinge at the middle.
Now, let’s talk about the design and specs of the phone. When unfolded you will get a viewing area of 6.75” but the bezel comes in the middle of the screen, so you will still be looking at two different screens. Moreover, the bezels at the bottom and top are also huge.
Each screen is 5.2” 1080p LCD, and due to their unique setup, you can use it in four different ways. In the dual screen, you can run two different apps per screen. And when unfolded it will give you 6.75” screen, can be used as canvas and mirror mode, where you can mirror one screen to another. When you fold it, only one display will light up.
If we sneak inside the phone, we will see a Snapdragon 821 chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM. To store your media files, it will come with 64GB of built-in storage. Talking about the camera, it has a 20 megapixel, that will work as primary and selfie shooter, because of its folding abilities the company didn’t bother to put another camera. It also has dual Stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack is still there. To back up the internals and dual screen it has a 3180mAh battery, which is kind of small because it has to power two display. The Axon M runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat, out of the box.
The phone will be available next month in the US and also expected in China, Europe, and Japan at some point in time in near future. However, there is no news of launching in South Asia soon. Though, it is obvious we will see it in the grey market as soon as it launches in the US. The company has priced it at $725 (roughly Rs.76,000 only).
The phones seem pretty amazing, the concept is much appreciable. However, the actual device and the expectation does not match at all. And the bezels at the top and bottom could be thinner. I am also concerned about the battery life, a 3180mAh battery is not enough to back-up the dual screens. And also, a single camera, yes it can be used as selfie camera, I think adding extra camera would be much interesting. And also, this phones gives an opportunity for the app developers to use its feature in many ways.
